Study abroad in Ecuador!

CEN Ecuador International Program is an intercultural immersion that takes place in the middle of the world, Ecuador. Take spanish classes, perform academic activities alongside local students and attend cultural events at Centro Ecuatoriano Norteamericano – CEN in coastal Guayaquil.

CEN is where you can combine academic content with an extended intercultural to develop your Spanish language skills. Students live with a host family. Living with a host family is a great way to become acquainted with Ecuadorian customs and practice your Spanish language.

Our internship offers students the opportunity to gain experience in a work field. Interns have held positions in communications, cultural affairs, education, clinical/nursing, management, finance, human rights, as well as in community service and outreach programs.

Latino Mental Health Program

Each year, students of the Lucero Latino Mental Health program from William James College in Boston, Massachusetts, perform their rotation at the Institute of Neurosciences of Guayaquil to analyze psychiatric cases. This program seeks to promote an academic and cultural exchange in which medical knowledge and techniques are shared to improve the mental health of patients.

About the Lucero Foundation program: It was created in memory of Cynthia Lucero (Ecuadorian residing in US) and her family’s noble act of donating her organs after she died suddenly during a marathon in Boston.

Cuenca field trip

Cuenca soars approximately 8,200 feet above sea level. Cuenca’s historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is composed of stunning old-world cathedrals, massive rotundas and colonial parks that attract students, tourists and expatriates from around the world. The wide variety of museums, parks, colonial plazas, churches, restaurants, nightlife and international food allows you to soak up the local culture and familiarize yourself with the impressive history. Pumapungo ruins is an archaeological park, located also in the historic center, built in the late 15th century. Inside were the Temple of the Sun and the Convent of the Virgins of the Sun, which were part of one of the most imposing and beautiful cities of the ancient Inca empire.

Quito field trip

Quito is the political capital of Ecuador situated on the slopes of Volcano Guagua Pichincha, flanked by the Andes mountains and canyons, at an elevation of 4,790 meters (the second highest in Latin America). Quito’s historic center is characterized by museums, galleries, cathedrals, colonial buildings, balcony furbished homes and outdoor markets with narrow cobbled streets. On a clear day you see snow capped volcanoes in the far distance adding to this truly unforgettable city. • It was the CEN family that made my time in Ecuador truly exceptional—my colleagues were the most welcoming of friends, and the students I tutored are some of the most driven individuals I have ever met. I had the pleasure of seeing some pretty amazing landscapes, cities, and historic sites, but it was the people at CEN that made my experience one I won’t ever forget.
